Bridging Work 2017

WHY DO BRIDGING WORK?

1. Because we want you to be really successful and what it takes to be successful at GCSE level is different from being successful at A-Level or BTEC standard. Although you have fewer subjects, there are different skills at Sixth Form and the volume of work is greater because the depth and detail is more demanding.

2. Bridging work should help you gauge whether the subject is for you, so you can change your mind at enrolment – as long as there is space and you meet the entry requirements. We would rather you studied courses that interest you and you are sufficiently qualified to study.

IS THERE BRIDGING WORK FOR EVERY SUBJECT?

YES – Every A-Level & BTEC has bridging work to complete. Some subjects issued their bridging work at the ‘taster’ day in July. There are two sections you must complete;
(i) Skills-based bridging work. A copy of this of this can also be found below. This must be handed to your new Sixth Form Guidance teacher in September.
(ii) Subject specific bridging work which needs to be completed and handed to your teacher when you enrol in September.

IS THE BRIDGING WORK ASSESSED?

Yes. In September, your subject teacher will ask for your bridging work and it will be assessed. The bridging work MUST be handed in during the first lesson that you have with that teacher.

Teachers can diagnose your strengths and weaknesses and begin to support you in a more targeted way. Bridging work also assesses your work ethic and so the Sixth Form Team will pick up anyone with low work ethic and may advise you about choosing other centres: feeling motivated to study is key, so we will help you find what interests you. Your Guidance teacher will also assess the skills based bridging work in terms of how much effort has been put in.

WHAT IF I CHOOSE A DIFFERENT SUBJECT IN SEPTEMBER – DO I STILL COMPLETE THE BRIDGING WORK FOR THE NEW COURSE?

YES. You have a shorter period within which to complete the bridging work in September, but it should take you no more than two evenings and some study periods. You should download the new work from our website.
