As a result of the government’s announcement that GCSE Computer Science will count as a science option in the English Baccalaureate (EBacc), more emphasis has now been placed on the subject. Our course provide students with an in depth understanding of how computer technology works. We offer an insight into what goes on ‘behind the scenes’, including computer programming using industry standard languages such as Python and JavaScript.

Component 1 – 40% – 1hr 30 min written exam
Component 2 – 40% – 1hr 30 min written exam
Non-exam Assessment – 20% (to be completed in controlled conditions)

Grading: Uses the new 9-1 grading system

How computers work and the logic/mathematics behind them:

  • Parts of the CPU and what each one does
  • Different memory types
  • Networks and protocols
  • System security
  • Algorithms
  • Problem Solving
  • Representing Data (large Maths content)
  • Programming in a text based language (Python)
