Our Curriculum

We believe that learners achieve best when they enjoy and can see a purpose to their work. We have embraced the personalised learning agenda and feel very strongly that curriculum design and redesign has a major part to play in the meeting of students’ needs. We have tried to provide opportunities for ‘assessment when ready’ and choice, flexibility and progression are key elements of our curriculum offer.

KS3 (Years 7 & 8) – key features

  • Broad range of subjects: English, Maths, Science, Design & Technology, Languages (French, Spanish), Dance, RE/Life, Geography, History, Music, Religious Studies, Art, ICT and PE.
  • Targeted extra support in Numeracy and Literacy.
  • Students graduate into KS4 at the end of Year 8 provided that their effort has been satisfactory during KS3.
  • All students graduating from Year 8 are encouraged to take part in the Outward Bound residential which takes place at the start of Year 9.

KS4 (Years 9, & 10) – key features

  • 16 periods per week for core subjects in Year 9 (13 in Year 10): English, Maths, Science, PE and RE/Life Skills.
  • 9 periods per week for option subjects – 3 options taken in Year 9 which are then automatically taken forward into Year 10. At the end of Year 10 all option subjects are examined.
  • An opportunity to choose new options in Year 11 to further enhance the students curriculum portfolio.
  • Range of vocational courses on offer.
  • Opportunities for students to have extra ‘booster’ time for English and/or Maths.

KS4 (Year 11) – key features

  • 16 periods per week for core subjects: English, Maths, Science, ICT, and PE.
  • 9 periods per week for option subjects – students choose from a range of 3 and 6 period options.
  • Range of vocational courses on offer.
  • Opportunities for students to have extra ‘booster’ time for English and/or Maths.

KS5 (Years 11, 12 & 13) – key features

  • A broad range of level 3 courses allow progression from KS4.
  • A Range of vocational courses are available.
  • Level 2 courses accessible to Year 12/13 students in vertical teaching groups.
